NUMFODS - Numbered file overrun detection system

This is free software. Distribute/modify at will.

This program finds numbered file overruns.

It is designed to be used for programs such as Eudora which ammend the filenames of attachments by appending a numerical counters. In the case of excessive spam, these counters can overflow and damage the filesystem or Eudora's ability to process subsequent emails.

For example, here is a (truncated) sample output for my Eudora directory (which had crashed) — the reason for my problem is a preponderance of untitled htm files, probably from a spam attachment (as you can see, Eudora crashes when it his 999 files of the same name — I should note that the reps column is the number of repetitions so the total number of files is one higher than this number).

Usage

This is a command line application — run it from a command prompt. It should work under all versions of Windows, although I have only tested it under XP.

Piping is supported, so if you'd like your "report" issued to a file rather than to the screen just type "numfods > report.txt"
