About Me and the Exciting World of Bodyart

My name is David.  I became very interested in body piercing about 10 years ago when I got my nipples pierced by Allen Faulkner at Obscurities in Dallas.  Later in the year, I had a prince albert done by Bear at Forbidden Fruit (it was at 26th and Guadalupe at the time).  This is a piercing which goes through the head of the penis--one of the more common genital piercings. I started with a twelve gauge ring-not very big. Right now I'm up to 2 gauge. The procedure is fairly simple. The piercer (I recommend Bear at True Blue/Glory Hole or Chris Kane at Body Rites of Austin) inserts a receiving tube into the urethra to catch the needle after it penetrates the wall of the penis. Then they pierce the penis just under the head, next to the frenum. The jewelry is attached to the needle, and the receiving tube is removed from the urethra, pulling the needle and the jewelry along with it. Presto! One Prince Albert!  Other piercings I have had done are four frenums.  I was working on a ladder, which goes down the shaft of the penis--on the underside.  However, I've dropped the frenum project to pursue the implant project.  I removed two ladder piercings in late 2002, because I tired of them.  Read on for more details.
Both of my nipples have been pierced. Twice. The first time they were pierced was in 1993. Allen Faulkner pierced my left nipple in Dallas. It didn't hurt much. I had a friend of a friend with me and he held my hand for the duration of the procedure. I started with a 14 ga CBR, which I think is a good size for starters. A 12 ga ring/barbell can also be used.  I had my right nipple pierced by Vanessa at the Glory Hole in Austin. She's a great piercer--trained at HTC in Arizona and partially by Fakir Musafar.  I gradually stretched them until I had 6 gauge barbells in them. Unfortunately, they became too heavy for my nipples to support, and they rejected. Rejection is when the jewelry migrates out of the tissue. I had to remove the barbells in December 1997, but I had them re-pierced in June 1998. This time I had them pierced deeper into my nipples, behind the scar tissue left from the other piercings. The idea was that the scar tissue would help "anchor" the rings and make them less prone to rejection.  The second set of nipple rings were removed in May of 2000.  I removed them because I felt that they just weren't going to heal.  It'd been two years and they were still crusting.  Despite all my rejections, I'm very happy with the work I have left over.  At one phase in my life, I was going for quantity, not quality, and tried to get/keep piercings that I knew wouldn't work for me.

I also have my septum pierced (that's the divider between the nostrils). I started with a 14 ga retainer, which is a small horseshoe-shaped piece of metal that fits neatly into the nose. I didn't want to have to remove my jewelry every time I went to work, so I kept the retainer in most of the time and wore the jewelry for more special occasions (like weddings and bar mitzvahs). I gradually stretched my septum piercing until i could accommodate a 4 ga ring. I occasionally wear a septum spike which is a 2.5 inch piece of surgical stainless steel.  I used to have two septum piercings, which was fun and not very common, but I decided to stretch up, and it was easier with only one hole.

At one time I had a guiche.  Some people call it the t'aint. You know, t'aint (it ain't) your balls, and t'aint your ass. The area that a guiche penetrates is called the perineum.  Unfortunately, my guiche migrated (or rejected). It rejected because my bicycle was my primary mode of transportation at the time and it just got to be too much for the new piercing to work with. I haven't had it re-pierced yet. But when I do, I'll be getting a vertical guiche.

Currently, I have two tongue (please note the spelling - it is not a TOUNGE) piercings. I used to have three, but in two instances, I had a terrible cold and two separate oral piercings had to be removed.  Although I took extremely good care of my oral piercings, and still do, nothing could prepare me for the loss of one of my tongue piercings and my tongue frenum piercing. Tongue frenum/frenulum is the web of tissue under the tongue that anchors it to the inside of the mouth. Three different piercers did my tongue piercings. Vanessa from Glory Hole, Bear (formerly of Forbidden Fruit, currently with Glory Hole), and Elayne Angel from Rings of Desire in New Orleans.  I also have my navel pierced, which was done by Bear of Forbidden Fruit.  No interesting stories there, except that the navel is, in my experience, the piercing that takes the longest to heal. In some cases, it can take up to nine months for a navel piercing to heal (mine took four months).  I also have the ubiquitous ear lobe and cartilage piercings (two of each).

On November 18th, 1999, I had the first of my genital bead implants done (procedural photos can be seen here).  Steve Joyner, who used to work  for Obscurities in Dallas, and was also the Vice President of the Association of Professional Piercers, did the procedure while guest piercing at Body Rites Austin (owned by Chris Kane).   Body Rites Austin is located at 500-B East 6th Street (inside River City Tattoo). The procedure is simple. The desired placement of the bead is located and pierced with an 8 ga needle.  Then an insertion taper is used to stretch the hole up to 2 ga.  Next, the bead is inserted and the hole is closed up using super glue. I'm thinking of doing seven more.  A second bead was added on June 24, 2000.  This time the procedure was a bit more uncomfortable, and there was some bruising. But all in all, the addition looks great.  Chris Kane, owner of Body Rites Austin, did this one for me.  He did the piercing freehand (no forceps), and did a great job with placement.  Two more implants were added in August, 2001.  We used titanium beads this time, and Chris did the work as well.  You can see pics here.

On May 14, 2000, I had my first tattoo done. Mandy Flynn did my work.  The whole process took about an hour.  The most painful part of the procedure was the last inch or so of the fill.  For about three days, it felt like i had the worst sunburn of my life (but concentrated in one tiny area).  The tattoo depicts the biohazard symbol.  It's blue with a green inner circle.  At first I was really disappointed with the way the tattoo turned out, but my artist explained that skin is not flat like paper and that images that are perfectly round on paper will look different on skin due to the way the skin is.  So now I'm fine with it and am very happy!  I had the tattoo re-touched on June 22, 2000.  It looks much more even.
On February 7, 2001 I started my second tattoo.  The completion phase (orange fill) of the tattoo was done on March 28, 2001.  Megan Emery of Black Cat Tattoo (on San Jacinto, just north of Sixth) in Austin, Tx did this one.  I had a retouch done on January 21, 2003.
