Tips, hints, and common sense
· NEVER clean ANY piercing with alcohol, peroxide, or iodine (Betadine)
· DO NOT play with your piercing while it is healing….let it rest.
· Keep all bodily fluids away from healing piercings. (your own are fine, silly)
· Expect a whitish colored fluid to come out of the piercing…..
this is called lymph, its mostly dead skin cells and plasma. Don't worry…..this isn't pus.
· If you have a question call and ask!!! We are more than happy to assist you with your new piercing.
· Avoid alcohol for the first week. This can lead to excessive swelling.
· Avoid unprotected oral sex and wet kissing for the first month.
· Avoid hot, spicy foods. Also foods that are crusty or
crunchy will irritate your piercing for the first couple of weeks.
· Avoid excessive talking for the first few weeks.
· To avoid heavy swelling at night, sleep with your head slightly
elevated above your heart…this will relieve the pressure to your tongue.
· Keep lots of ice in your mouth to relieve swelling.(popsicles, flavor ice, slurpees work well too)
· Take ibuprofen to relieve swelling and discomfort.
· If you like your piercing keep jewelry in it at all times!
Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes, even
after being healed for years. If your jewelry falls out and can't be easily
put back into place DO NOT force it through. See a piercer as
soon as possible, the jewelry can usually be re-inserted without too much trouble.
During the first couple of weeks your new piercing is going to be
a little tender, it may also bleed a little if it is bumped or
moved the wrong way…this is normal.
You may also notice some discoloration around the piercing , this too is normal.
