Lisa's Modifications
My name is Lisa and I'm a library student, about to graduate from an MLIS program in May 1999. I got my first library job in 1994, but I'm relatively new to the world of body modification, having gotten my first tattoo last summer. It was a happy time in my life that I wanted to remember. I got it at Atomic Tattoo on Burnet Road in Austin, TX. Felix was the artist; he does beautiful work, has a light touch, and plays great music.

Yes, ankle tattoos are painful. Maybe it's just me, but I thought it actually felt good. Afterward, I felt very high and creative. Nicholas, another modified librarian, had to drive me to the drugstore to buy lotion. I'd forgotten that I had to call my cataloging professor to ask her a question about our exam, and I was giggling on the phone the whole time I was speaking to her. Another friend commented, half-jokingly, "But librarians don't have tattoos!" I told her I could think of at least ten who did. |
My next tattoo will probably be on my other ankle, once my many cat scratches heal. I like ankle and bracelet tattoos; they're very femme. I also think tongue piercings are lovely. Every few months I seriously consider getting one, but there's no hurry. It hasn't happened yet, and I'm not sure how to time it between job interviews. In the meantime I am purchasing opaque stockings and hoping for the best.
