TECHNIQUES FOR SCROTAL INFUSION

If you need the complete equipment to start with saline infusion, look at the website mentioned at the bottom of this page !

- Before starting you should prepare your scrotum and shave it, using Antiseptic Towelettes and Povidone Iodine Wipes or Alcohol Swabs, preferable 1 à 2 hours before the beginning so the eventual bleeding by the shaving will have closed and won't start bleeding during the expansion of your scrotum during the infusion.

- The bag of Saline(picture 1) should be warmed to about 110°F. or 44°C. prior to use. This may be done in a microwave oven (± 2 minutes at level 700). ATTENTION: before you put the bag in the microwave, first remove the protective cover of the bag otherwise the bag can't be able to expand and can start leaking!
Take the Tube set and place the flow regulater about 4 inch under the bottom of the flow control reservoir(picture 2) and close the flow regulator.

[ Bag type A ] Take the Saline bag and cut the opening in which the topside of theTubeset must be inserted. Be aware of the pressure of the Saline in the bag, so make the cutting while you hold the bag upside down (the "to be opening" on top). Insert the sharp top of the flow control reservoir in the opening in the saline bag.
[ Bag type B ] Press the sharp top of the flow control reservoir in the special tube end of the saline bag(picture 3)

- Hang now the Saline bag at a height which will be at least 1 meter higher than the the place where your scrotum will be. Press in the plastic flow control reservoir one or more times so the Saline can fill the reservoir half or a little bit more so you, later on, can check the speed of the dripping. Open now the flow control a little bit and let the Saline stream till there isn' t any air left in the whole tube and close the regulator(flow control) afterward. Mount the needle/IV Catheter and open the flow control till you see the Saline coming out of the needle and close the regulator again. Now the infusion kit is ready to be used.

- You should shower before you start the infusion and take care that the environment in which the activities take place has a good temperature in which you will feel comfortable.

- Just before you put the needle into your scrotum clean again the area of insertion with an Iodine Wipe or Alcohol Swab.

TOP INSERTION
- Holding the penis up against the abdomen, insert the needle/IV Catheter Assembly at a point just below the base of the penis and thrust downward into the scrotum between the testicles (see picture 6 and picture 7).
BOTTOM INSERTION
- Holding the penis out of the way, insert the needle/IV Catheter Assembly at a point just at the bottom of your scrotum and thrust upward into the scrotum between the testicles (see picture 8 and picture 9).

If you use a plain needle go to: Continue

- Hold the Assembly between the thumb and middle finger with the forefinger over the needle cap. This prevents the needle from slipping back into the Catheter thus preventing penetration. Keep the point of the needle at least 3/8 inch away from the other side of your scrotum because you need to fill your scrotum from within so it will expand equally as possible. Most preferable is to let the end of the needle end somewhere between your testicles. When inserting the Needle, stay away from visible bloodvessels. Keep in mind that when your scrotum is expanding the point of the needle will (relatively) remove from its original location. That's why I use a 2½ inch needle instead of an IV Catheter Assembly when I want to fill my scrotum with more than 1000cc. With a needle you can readjust the point of it so you can keep filling your scrotum from the center of it and get the best results afterward.

- Remove the Needle and Needle Cap leaving the Catheter in place. Connect the IV Admin Kit and begin the infusion. Flow rate of a steady drip, NOT a steady stream. The Catheter may have to be adjusted to get proper flow.

Continue
- Tape the Catheter/Needle and the tubing to your body so it won't be able to come out while moving and fix the position to keep a proper flow.

- Infusions of 500cc to 1000cc give the best estetic results. Fluids may migrate and infiltrate the penis and the foreskin, especially in uncircumcised males.

- After withdrawing the Catheter/Needle, there may be some leakage and/or some drips of blood. Dry the area and apply a small Band-Aid.

- The scrotum returns to normal after 48-72 hours.

- Some hours after the infusion you can have some bruises around the area of insertion and also sometimes at the opposite site of your scrotum. This is normally because you can have had a little bit of blood leaking inside your scrotum (caused by the needle). Because of the Saline inside your scrotum the drips of blood can spread and come to the surface. Normally it will disappear like a normal bruise.

- If you want to reuse the tubeset (not the needle and officially it is not adviced and when you do, do it only on the same person!) you can flush the tubeset afterward with alcohol and keep it dry and clean. Do this again and rinse it with Saline before you start the next infusion.

- BE AWARE THAT STERILE TECHNIQUE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PROCEDURE!
